About us

Two makers, one very furry bench

Furvella started in 2019 as a spare-room project and grew into a small Portland, Oregon studio. We build a limited number of suits each year so every one gets the hours it deserves.

We met at a convention repair table, patching a friend's seam with a borrowed needle. One of us came from theatrical costume, the other from soft-toy design — between us we had exactly the right mismatched skills to make suits that move well and read beautifully on camera.

Seven years and 140+ suits later, not much has changed about how we work. Everything is built in-house on one bench: foam sculpted by hand, fur cut and brushed by hand, every seam checked twice. We don't outsource heads, and we don't run more than four builds at a time.

We take on a limited queue each year, mixing bold experimental characters with simple, well-made classics. If your idea excites us, we'll tell you — and if it needs rethinking, we'll tell you that too.

How we work

Three things we won't compromise on

Comfort first

A suit you can't wear for six hours isn't finished. Airflow, vision and weight balance are designed in from the sculpt stage, not patched on at the end.

Honest craft

We tell you when a design choice won't hold up in fur, and we'd rather lose a sale than build something that will disappoint you in year two.

Your character, your call

We have opinions but no house style. The reference sheet is approved by you before a single piece of fur is cut.
